Research
Projects: The Intelligent Ventilator (INVENT) project
In this project
mathematical models of oxygen transport, carbon dioxide transport and lung
dynamics
have
been used in the construction of the following 3 systems
1) The Automatic Lung
Parameter Estimator (ALPE)
- This system estimates parameters of pulmonary gas exchange from
non-invasive clinical measurements,
in a procedure taking only 10-15 minutes.
2) The
Intelligent Ventilator (INVENT) system
- This system uses the physiological models combined with utility functions
in a system estimating the
most appropriate settings for the ventilator for mechanically ventilated
patients.
3)
Clinical interpretation of acid-base chemistry
- This includes a
system for calculating arterial acid-base status from measurements in the
venous blood.
